Meet Your Instructor

My name is Toby Gibb and I've been training jiu jitsu and sorting out my internal world for the past 7 years.

I started off slow, training a couple times a week and meditating 20 minutes a day. I ramped both up quickly, training 8-10 times a week and meditating 2 hours a day. Not long after I got into Breathwork. It suited me because it was physical, simple to understand, and most importantly gave me results quickly. I got qualified as a Breathwork coach and have been helping people ever since to feel better and to optimise their performances.

I've made incredible progress with how I feel on and off the mats, overcoming intense anxiety and disconnection. Breathwork, in my mind, has also improved my jiu jitsu. There's less tension in my body, more freedom for movement, and my mind is clearer allowing me to see creative solutions to the problems faced on the mats. What experience is needed for this course?

This course is for anyone wanting to level up how the feel on and off the mats. To learn to understand and use something fundamental to life... the breath. You don't need to have any experience with 'spirituality' or carbon dioxide tolerance training. Anyone can reap the benefits. You just have to be willing to commit and put in the effort. You will get out what you put in.

How long do I have access to the program & when does it start?

You'll get lifetime access to all the material released for Midway 30's Breathwork Course. This is something I will continue to build and make improvements on. The course will start on the 31st of October but different section will be completed earlier and will be posted. For example I will complete the 30 Day challenge first and you can expect to have this by mid October.

What happens in the longer breathwork sessions?

A few things! After about 10-15 minutes of conscious connected breathing the conscious mind slows down as well as the pre frontal context (the monkey mind). During this time the theta brain wave state is also activated. This is the state you are in when you wake up and go to sleep. It's also the state connected to hypnosis. These factors curate a space to drop into the subconscious mind. This is where we hide all of our shit (pain and trauma) and it's the place we need to go to if we're after big shifts! I'll be there throughout, guiding the process and helping you to push beyond your perceived limits. In saying this, you're in complete control. If something comes up that you're not ready to face you can slow your breathing down and the experience will fade. The opposite is also true. If something comes up that you are ready to let go of, you can increase your breathing and dive head first into it. This allows you to feel and then release the stuck tension in your body.

What do you think the biggest misconception about breathing is?

Most people believe that just because we breathe automatically that we're automatically breathing in a healthy way. And nothing could be further from the truth. We've become a society of chronic over breathers caused by modern, fast pace life styles. We are breathing 2-3 times more than we need. These breaths are generally taken in through the mouth and are shallow i.e. into the chest. This activates the sympathetic nervous system known as fight or flight. This exacerbates chronic symptoms of stress, anxiety and a disconnect to our lives. We need to learn to breathe LOW, SLOW, and DEEP throughout the day to activate our parasympathetic nervous system known as rest and digest. This type of breathing will also improve your bodies ability to convert oxygen into available energy for the body to use.

Can't I learn all of this on Youtube?

I think everything is online these days. However it will be unorganised and potentially unclear. I've spent my 20's as a primary school teacher learning how to structure lessons to be clear and simple. I've also done extensive research for this course and worked as Breathwork coach for the past 3 years. I've done the heavy lifting. All you need to do is sign up and follow the steps.

What is the difference between this Breathwork and the Whim Hoff Method?

Most Breathwork facilitators, including Whim Hof and myself, use conscious connected breathing. Here there are no pauses after the inhale and exhale. The difference is what happens during the sessions. With Whim Hof you're set up with the breathing technique, the music plays and you follow along. You are in charge of pushing yourself once you enter the subconscious mind. With me, I'll be guiding and pushing you once you reach this place. My intention is to support you in reframing old beliefs and to help you let go of what is weighing you down. Both methods are great and both produce wonderful results.
